NBA Best Bets: August 7
Adam Ronis brings you his best bets for today's NBA slate
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic, 6:30 p.m. ET
The 76ers will be without Ben Simmons, who has a subluxation of the left kneecap. The 76ers have lost to the Pacers, beat the Spurs by two and defeated the Wizards by nine. They have yet to play top teams and have struggled to pull away. The Magic won their first two games and lost the last two against the Raptors and Pacers. They will be without Aaron Gordon. The 76ers have needed huge games from Joel Embiid just to survive. The 76ers are the better team, but they haven't run away from teams. The Magic keep the game close. A Magic win or Wizards loss will clinch a playoff spot for the Magic.
PICK: Magic +5
Toronto Raptors vs. Boston Celtics, 9 p.m. ET
These are two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference with aspirations of knocking off the Bucks and reaching the finals. The Raptors aim to clinch the two seed in the Eastern Conference. The Raptors haven't lost in Orlando, winning by 15, four and 10 points. The Celtics are 2-2 with the loss against the Bucks and against the Heat, who were without Jimmy Butler. The Raptors are healthy and the Celtics have been limiting the minutes of Kemba Walker. He has played 19, 22 and 27 minutes in Orlando. The Raptors opened as three-point favorites and the line is moving towards the Celtics.
PICK: Raptors -1.5
Thomas Bryant Points O/U 16.5
Bryant had a bad game against the Suns to open play in Orlando and has gone on a tear since. He is averaging 23 points in the last three games, scoring 30, 20 and 19 points against Joel Embiid. Bryant has played 31, 29 and 37 minutes over the last three games. He has taken 49 shots from the field and shot 7-for-14 from three-point range. The matchup is excellent against a fast-paced Pelicans team that is bad defensively, too. The game total is 233.5.
PICK: Over 16.5 points (-125)
