MLB Best Bets: September 2
Adam Ronis brings you his top bets for today's MLB Slate
Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies, 7:10 p.m. ET
The Nationals are 5-10 in their last 15 games, but three of those wins came with Max Scherzer on the mound. The Nationals have lost four consecutive games and seven of their last eight. Scherzer is 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 55:13 K:BB ratio in 37.1 innings. He allowed one run and struck 11 over six innings in his last start against the Red Sox. Zack Wheeler goes for the Phillies and has pitched well. He is 3-0 with a 2.58 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 23:7 K:BB ratio in 38.1 innings. It's rare to get Scherzer at this low price.
PICK: Nationals (-118)
Atlanta Braves at Boston Red Sox, 7:30 p.m. ET
The Red Sox pitching is awful. They will send Robinson Leyer to the mound. Mike Kickham was originally scheduled to start and he hasn't made an appearance in the majors since 2014. He could follow Leyer. They have scored 26 runs over the last three games. The Red Sox still have some good hitters and get to face Robbie Erlin, who hasn't pitched more than four innings in a start. He has a 6.00 ERA over 18 innings and has allowed three home runs over his last eight innings. There will be a lot of runs.
PICK: Over 11 runs (-110)
PICK: Braves (-150)
Texas Rangers at Houston Astros, 8:10 p.m. ET
The Astros blew a 4-3 lead in the ninth inning against the Rangers yesterday and lost, 6-5 in 10 innings. Cristian Javier will pitch for the Astros and he is 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.03 WHIP and a 31:11 K:BB ratio in 31 innings and allowed 23 hits. Kolby Allard goes for the Rangers and he has a 6.50 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with a 19:10 K:BB ratio in 18 innings. The Astros are 14-6 at home and the Rangers are 4-11 on the road.
PICK: Astros -1.5 (-104)
