NHL Best Bets - 2020 NHL Playoffs
Andrew Dewhirst brings you his best bets for the upcoming 2020 NHL Playoffs
Now that we have the teams for the Stanley Cup playoffs, it’s time to take a look at betting some futures on it.
These 3 teams stand out for me betting futures, as particularly good bets. Washington is getting a particularly nice betting line. They had the 5th best winning percentage through the regular season, and only a year removed from winning the cup. They have enough scoring depth to keep teams from focusing only on their top line, The question mark for them is going to be around their goalie play with Holtby being past his prime. However, if he gets hot, or if Ilya Samsonov plays well, the Caps have the tools to win the Cup.
It’s rare that a team goes back to back, but the Blues have largely the same team that won it all last year. Their style of play should keep them in most games, and getting a healthy Tarasenko back should help them score more goals. This is a team built for playoff hockey. There are no superstars on this team, but they have all the tools. The Blues had the second highest point total in the NHL last year, and have a great betting line, that doesn’t necessarily reflect that. This is a good buy.
Vancouver Canucks +3000
Winnipeg Jets +5500
Columbus Blue Jackets +6600
What makes Vancouver particularly interesting is how good they were at home. They had the second best home record in the West, and winning at home is so important in the playoffs. They have a top line(Pettersson, Miller, and Boeser)that is as good as any in the Western Conference, and Markstrom, their goalie, has shown this year that he can win them games. At +3000 putting some money down on them could pay off big.
Similar to the teams in the safer sections, the Jets have all of the things you would look for in a Stanley Cup winner. They have a solid top 2 lines(Schiefele, Connor and Laine was one of the 5 highest scoring lines in the league this year), a goalie who was among the best in the league this year in Hellebuyuk, but what they don’t have is defensive depth. However teams have won without great defensive corps in the past when you have a hot goalie, and their line is one that would pay off in a big way.
Lastly, and the biggest longshot is Columbus. John Tortorella has a team that is largely built to play his defensive style, and they will also be among the biggest beneficiaries to the long layoff as they have a long list of injuries. A healthy Blue Jackets team, who is built to play sound defense is one that can make a run. The questions will come largely around their ability to score
