Top Plays for Friday 8/31

Syracuse -5 @ Western Michigan

While Syracuse lost it’s top two receivers in Seve Ishmael and Ervin Phillips, it does return athletic quarterback Eric Dungey and has a small army of speedy wideouts ready to step in for the aforementioned departed. Look for Devin Butler to emerge as a go-to guy, with support from Jamal Custis and Sean Riley. The Broncos of Western Michigan are another year removed from The days of P.J. Fleck, and have fallen off as a result of it. Look for Syracuse to outman an underwhelming MAC squad and run away with this in a high scoring affair. Syracuse is the play here.

Prediction - Syracuse 48, Western Michigan 21

Wisconsin -36.5 vs Western Kentucky

Don’t get me wrong, 36.5 points is a massive spread. However, it still isn’t enough. Wisconsin brings back arguably the most impressive offensive line in the country and one of the nation’s elite backs to run behind it in Jonathan Taylor. He will probably only play a quarter, but might take his 10 carries for 175 yards and 3 scores. Western Kentucky was inept offensively last year, and much of the same is expected this year. Wisconsin covers the huge spread and nearly takes the game over the total all by themselves. Western Kentucky will consider any points a moral victory.

Prediction - Wisconsin 52, Western Kentucky 0

Colorado -7.5 vs Colorado State and OVER 62

This rivalry game will be played at a neutral site (Sports Authority Field in Denver), so expect the fans to be more neutral than a true Colorado home game. We learned last week that the Colorado State defense has some serious flaws after they were exposed by Cole McDonald and the new Hawaii Rainbows offense. Colorado may not play with the tempo of Hawaii, but they have better athletes, expect them to score at will as well. Fortunately, it’s not all doom and gloom for the Rams, as they have some serious firepower as well. Expect them to match the scoring tit for tat and this one to turn into another exciting shootout that makes it well over the total - potentially in the third quarter

Prediction - Colorado 43, Colorado State 38
