PGA Best Best: QBE Shootout
Drew Phelps pores through the data to bring you his Best Bets and analysis for the 2020 QBE Shootout this week to help you cash those tickets.
I hope you cashed on Carlos Ortiz Top 20 play from the Mayakoba like I did. Ancer finished just one stroke from the Top 10 but close doesn’t make the money.
We’ve got the QBE Shootout this weekend. This event has been going on for 20 years at the Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Florida. There are 12 pairs of golfers including 16 of the Top 50 players in the world.
RYAN PALMER – HAROLD VARNER III TO FINISH TOP 3 (+300)
These two golfers are each making their third appearance at the QBE Shootout. They paired together for this event last year and finished third.
When looking through the history of this event, we haven’t had a first time team win this event since 2011 with Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele. I like that they have good working chemistry already and combined they’ve got five wins worldwide.
MARC LEISHMAN – CAMERON SMITH TO WIN (+800)
This is my longshot play especially after I just said that there has been no first-time winner of this event since 2011 but here goes nothing. It has happened before, it’s just been a while.
A pair of Aussies, Marc Leishman, and Cameron Smith are pairing up for the first time in this event. I’ve spoken at length about Marc’s ability to play in the wind, Cameron Smith is no slouch either. Marc had a rough go of it after the hiatus but finished strong with a Top 15 finish at the Masters while his partner Cameron Smith peaked down the stretch of the season finishing runner up to Dustin Johnson at the Masters.
