NBA Best Bets: August 13
Adam Ronis brings you his best bets for today's NBA slate
Portland Trail Blazers at Brooklyn Nets, 9 p.m. ET
Portland gets the eighth seed in the Western Conference with a win. They have played a difficult schedule and have gone 5-2. Most of their games have come down to the final few minutes. Damian Lillard has been on fire and coming off a 61-point game, tying a career high and the second time he has done it this season. The Nets are locked into the seventh seed and have nothing to play for. They might play some of their regulars. The Nets have been a surprise going 5-2 in the bubble, including upset wins over the Bucks and Clippers. In their two losses, they have fell by 10 points and 34 points. The only way this game is meaningless for the Blazers is if the Grizzlies, Suns and Spurs all lose and that seems unlikely. The Blazers are 5-1-1 ATS in the bubble. The line is big, but the Blazers have been rolling and even if the game is close, this feels like a spot where the Blazers pull away late find a way to cover and get the 8th seed.
Pick: Blazers -9.5
Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns, 4 p.m. ET
The Suns have been the surprise team in the bubble. They have won all seven games and are 7-0 ATS. They need to win to have a shot at the play-in game. The Mavericks have nothing to play for as they are locked into the seventh seed and a first-round matchup against the Clippers. The Suns were 9.5-point favorites in the last game against the 76ers and covered. Four of their seven wins have been by double-digits. Kristaps Porzingis is listed as doubtful and it would be surprising to see the Mavericks play their significant players for the whole game.
PICK: Suns -9
Carmelo Anthony Over/Under 15.5 points
Anthony has been playing great basketball. He has hit some key shots and has played at least 34 minutes in six of the seven games in the bubble. He has scored at least 21 points in four of those games, including the last three. C.J. McCollum has been playing through a fractured lower back and Anthony has taken 45 shots over the last three games. The Blazers need to win to get the eighth seed and the Nets have nothing to play for.
PICK: Over 15.5 points (-118)
